汤伏生教授的研究主要集中在细胞生物学和生物化学领域，致力于探索酵母细胞内重要生物过程的调控机制，并以此为基础，研究酵母细胞寿命延长细胞器功能与互作、以及基因网络的调控等问题。已在Nature、Jourmal of Cell Biology、 Molecular Biology of the Cell、Traffic等国内外高水平学术期刊上发表多篇学术论文。曾受美国心脏协会（American Heart Association,2009-2012）、INBRE-instrument grant （2022）、Kathleen Thompsen Hall Charitable Trust grant （2007-2008）等项目资助。
